In the early phases of my tenure at Compassion, I held the position of UX Designer II, where my primary responsibility was to spearhead the introduction of an innovative product within the organization during my first year.

What is Kin?

Kin is a v1 product, offering users the chance to support meaningful causes following their engagement with a diverse array of content, including shows, movies, music, and series that shed light on global issues like poverty and other pressing concerns.

What is the Problem?

One of the primary objectives we aimed to address with this product was to expand Compassion's audience by enhancing awareness through the introduction of a new offering. In pursuit of this goal, I identified several key questions and challenges that we needed to tackle.

  • Rather than interrupt, how can we attract more people to the story of Compassion?

  • How can we release exponentially more children from poverty?

  • Can we turn attention into a form of Philanthropy?

  • Does Kin Help do that?

Throughout the process, I engaged with and presented to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

These stakeholders encompassed the Senior Director of Global Experience, UX Manager, Global Content Director, and representatives from the UNBRKBLE Agency.

I collaborated with a team to make this product come to life and to show proof of concept.

I worked with a UX Research Team, the UNBRKBLE Team, and my UX Manager.

From the outset, our team acknowledged the significant competition surrounding our idea. However, this also presented us with abundant opportunities to differentiate ourselves.

Coming from a non-profit — opportunity to connect story and mission.

Authentic stories, highlighting complexities from a non-profit poverty prospective.

The opportunity for donations in a streaming service.

Wireframes

I presented many wireframes to the stakeholders weekly through out the process while collaborating with UNBRKBLE about my ideas.

Takeaways:

This project was a lot of fun because we were able to explore a new side of Compassion that could really change it in ways to help release more children from poverty.

Unfortunately, this project is put on hold till probably at the end of the year but I am looking forward to picking it back up to continue to lead the way on this product.
